Giants hang on against the Washington Football Team for their second win of the season!

The New York Giants narrowly defeat the Washington Football Team 23-20. Led by Patrick Graham and the defense, the Giants forced the Football Team to turn the ball over 5 times (4 interceptions and 1 fumble). Daniel Jones had a clean sheet for the first time all season. He threw for 212 yards and a touchdown on 23/34 pass attempts. He added 4 rushing yards on 6 attempts. This victory over Washington makes Jones 4-0 against Washington. However, he is 1-16 against the rest of the NFL. Jones played a good game, and showed tremendous growth as a QB. he made quick decisions, got the ball out quick, and didn't try to extend plays when he couldn't. In past games, Jones would avoid a sack and throw to a receiver off balance or as he was getting hit. This led to interceptions and fumbles; He is at the top of the turnover list since entering the league. Against Washington however, he threw the ball away when nothing was available, or secured the ball and took the sack. He did have 2 fumbles, one which went out of bounds, and another which he recovered. The offensive line did give up 5 sacks to the Washington defense, but they excelled in run blocking. They gave the running backs big holes, and helped the running back committee of Gallman, Morris, and Lewis combine for 140 rushing yards. Gallman also got a 2 yard rushing touchdown which was the first touchdown of the game for either side. That is Gallmans 3rd consecutive game with a touchdown. This was the most yardage the Giants have gotten this season, gaining 374 yards combined. Evan Engram had 5 receptions on 10 targets for 48 yards and a touchdown. Sterling Shepard added 6 receptions on 8 targets for 39 yards. He added 18 rushing yards on one attempt. Golden Tate did not play because of comments and attitude about targets. Joe Judge was having none of it, and sat him for the game. His return this week is questionable. Austin Mack, who started instead of Tate showed flashes of an excellent receiver. He had 4 receptions for 72 yards, and showed strong hands and good route running ability. However, Darius Slayton only had 1 receptor for 4 yards. As a top receiver on the Giants his involvement is crucial to difficult games and he needs to be more involved in the passing game. While the Giants do not have a star wide receiver, they have a good, talented group of receivers who have great playmaking ability. Defensively, Blake Martinez, who leads the league in tackles, led the Giants once again with 10 total tackles. They had 4 interception against Alex Smith and Kyle Allen who exited the game with a nasty ankle injury. Prayers up for Allen. The defensive line did not get enough pressure on the quarterback as they only had 2 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 7 qb hits. They also led up a 68 yard catch and run touchdown to Terry McLaurin. Poor tackling and communication in the end of close games like this are what leads to losses. Out of the 7 losses the Giants have, 5 games have been decided by one possession. The biggest problem is at the end of games Patrick Graham, defensive coordinator of the Giants, calls very soft coverage and allows for teams to get big chunk plays at the end of games. Overall, it was a good game and with a few changes defensively, and Daniel Jones continuing to get smarter with the football, the Giants are legit playoff contenders in a terrible NFC East division. Next up, the Giants play the Eagles at 1 pm on FOX, a team that they should have beat if Engram hadn't dropped a game ending catch, and the defense didn't give up a touchdown in the last two minutes.
